Thrissur: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has checked the bank accounts of CPI(M) Thrissur District Secretary M.M. Varghese in connection with the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank fraud. After hours of questioning, his phone was also seized by the officials.
It is reported that Varghese reiterated the claim that CPI(M) does not have any secret account in Karuvannur Cooperative Bank. But the ED during investigation has discovered that CPI(M) has five secret accounts. Apart from the ED, officials from the Income Tax Department also questioned Varghese. Varghese had appeared for questioning at the ED office in Ernakulam.
The ED had previously questioned CPI(M) State Secretariat member PK Biju in connection with the Karuvannur fraud case. Biju was interrogated based on the statement of CPI(M) leader PR Aravindakshan, who was earlier arrested in the fraud case.
