Thiruvananthapuram: In most districts of Kerala, the minimum temperature in night ranges between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius. Temperature is expected to rise until the end of this month due to high humidity. With minimum night temperature soaring between 28 – 30 degrees Celsius in most districts , authorities are urging caution amidst the rising heat and humidity.
A heat wave is also likely in Palakkad and Kollam districts. A heat wave warning is declared when temperature remain above 40 degrees Celsius for two consecutive days, exceeding the average temperature by 4-5 degrees Celsius.
According to reports, Palakkad district has recorded a temperature of 41.5 degrees Celsius, marking the highest temperature in the state since 2016. The district has experienced temperature exceeding 40 degrees Celsius for the last four consecutive days.
Weather experts attribute the current weather patterns to the El Niño phenomenon. El Niño disrupts normal weather patterns. This phenomenon alters the course, direction, and timing of rain, heat, and wind across the planet. While El Niño typically lasts for only a few months. Researchers suggest that its consequences will alter the current climate and temperature regimes worldwide.
The most recent significant El Niño event occurred during the period 2014–2018 in Kerala. While some regions experienced extreme heat, others faced heavy rainfall.
