Thiruvananthapuram: The Election Commission has warned Shashi Tharoor and 24 News Channel head Sreekandan Nair for leveling accusation against NDA candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar without any evidence. Congress candidate Shashi Tharoor had made false accusation against Rajeev Chandrasekhar during an interview he gave to 24 News Channel.
Shashi Tharoor had accused the NDA candidate of giving money to voters and community leaders in exchange for votes. In response to Shashi Tharoor’s false claims, BJP State Election Committee legal cell convener, Adv. JR Padmakumar, and NDA Election Committee district convener, VV Rajesh, approached the Election Commission and lodged a complaint.
The Election Commission sent a notice to Shashi Tharoor and 24 News Channel regarding the complaint. However, the respondents could not substantiate the accusation nor were they able to give a reply. Raising false allegations and spreading it is a clear violation of the mode of conduct during elections.
The Election Commission has also ordered that the controversial parts of the interview must not be spread in any form or manner.
NDA candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar is putting up a strong fight against sitting MP and Congress candidate Shashi Tharoor in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency.
