Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Election Commissioner, Tikaram Meena, has warned Fisheries Minister, J. Mercykutty Amma, for violating the moral code of conduct in effect in Kottayam district imposed in view of the coming by-election to Pala assembly seat.
During the election campaign the Fisheries Minister promised the people that the government will construct a market in Pala. Following her remarks, the Kerala Congress (M) leader, Joseph M. Puthussery, approached the Election Commissioner and filed a complaint.
Tikaram Meena received the report given by the Collector about the complaint and took the decision to warn the Mercykutty Amma for violating the moral code of conduct.
The Pala by-election is scheduled to be on 23 September and all the candidates are going all out to woo the voters. The seat fell vacant after the demise of Kerala Congress (M) leader K. M. Mani, who had represented the constituency since its inception in 1967.
The Congress led UDF will field Kerala Congress (M) leader, Jose Tom Pulikunnel. However, the candidate did not get the Kerala Congress (M) leader symbol due to a vicious infighting in the regional party.
The CPI(M) led LDF has decided to field Mani C. Kappan, who is the leader of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and ally in the left front.
BJP will be represented by the Kottayam district President, N. Hari. The BJP candidate had also contested from the constituency in 2016 as well.
