Kozhikode: SFI activists of the Malabar Christian college locked up teachers on the accusation that the teachers prevented their attendance. It was the last date to submit the attendance sheet for the fifth semester at the University but the Head of the Department declined to mark their attendance due to their absence in the class.
The head of the Malayalam department V S Robert and assistant professor Dr G Sreejith were locked in the room for about one and a half hours. The room was unlocked after the principal reached out and listened to the demand of SFI students.
Further, the staff council held a meeting and decided to give attendance to the students. Department head V S Robert said the attendance level has been passed on to the office after accurate procedures. He asserted that those students who give an explanation for their absence are given proper attendance whereas those who fail to submit explanation cannot be given a fair chance.
Meanwhile, KSU has lodged a complaint with the Vice-Chancellor of Kozhikode University against the principal for giving attendance to the students who did not actually turn up for the class initially during the academic days.
