Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government’s wastage of taxpayers’ money is legendary even when the state is under financial duress. This time the Cabinet Minister for Electricity, M. M. Mani, has found to have spent Rs. 5 lakh to change the tyres on his official car over a period of just 2 years. Curiously, he changed 34 tyres of his car 1O times in this short period.
The misuse of public money was brought out after a Right to Information (RTI) request was made seeking information into this regard. The Minister uses an Innova Crista for his official purposes.
The price of one tyre of Innova costs Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 13,000. With the average life of one tyre between 50,000 km and 80,000 km, it is a mystery why the tyres were changed 10 times in this short span of time.
The next in line to have spent record amount of money on tyres is the Transportation Minister, A. K. Sasidharan after he changed 13 tyres of his Innova car.
It is worrying to see that the Ministers themselves are indulged in unwarranted misuse of public money when the state is undergoing financial constraints.
