Thiruvananthapuram: Thirty three organizations, mostly composed of communal organizations, is conducting a hartal today to protest against Citizenship Amendment Act, and the National Register of Citizens. The hartal will be observed from 6 am to 6 pm.
The hartal is called by a Joint Action Committee of a group of 33 outfits, which include Kerala Muslim Youth Federation, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Welfare Party, Solidarity Organization etc. These outfits believe that people will express solidarity with their protest and expects a peaceful hartal in the state.
However, the police have claimed that as per the law these outfits have not issued notice seven days before the hartal. Police have said that strict action will be taken against those who execute protest violently and create a havoc in the society.
Meanwhile, there is no change in school exams following the hartal. Also University exams have also not been postponed.
The BJP has said that the hartal is unnecessary and is aimed at communal and political gains and also against the interest of the nation
