New Delhi: BJP MP, G.V.L Narasimha Rao, today filed a petition to Rajya Sabha Chairman, Venkaiah Naidu, requesting to initiate breach of privilege and contempt proceedings against the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, after the state assembly passed a resolution which opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Narasimha Rao is the member of the committee of privileges in the Rajya Sabha.
The MP said, “Rajya Sabha handbook clearly states this is a violation of Parliament privileges. So, I have petitioned Rajya Sabha Chairman seeking contempt proceedings and breach of privilege proceedings against Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan.”
He added that passing the resolution against CAA was breach of privileges of Parliament. The proceedings in Parliament or any state legislature cannot be commented upon by any other legislature or house of Parliament.
Narasimha Rao said that Citizenship is a matter of central subject and only the Parliament has the power to legislate.
The Kerala Legislative Assembly earlier today passed a resolution denouncing the CAA and the Chief Minister said that CAA is part of an agenda to target Muslims by the RSS.
