Thiruvananthapuram: The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church has accepted the prevalence of love jihad in Kerala and said that Christian girls are targeted. The Church also expressed concerns about how the police is handling the issue. The Church also said that love jihad is not imaginary and girls are sexually exploited in the name of love.

The Catholic Church opened up their views on love jihad during the Synod, which is the meeting of the bishops of the Church. The Synod blamed the police for not doing enough in curbing the menace.

The press release by the church said, “It’s a matter of fact that planned ‘love jihad’ is happening, targeting Christian girls. According to what police have said among the 21 who went to ISIS half of them were Christian converts. It is a serious matter that many who are not in the records are being converted and used for terrorist activities.”

The meeting said that love jihad is preying on Christian girls and they are being targeted. While the girls are lured with love, conversion takes place once the relation leads to marriage.

The Synod also discussed about the figures of love jihad against Christian girls and said that out of the 21 persons who joined Islamic State from Kerala, half of were Christians.
