Kannur University allows arrested Maoist, Alan Shuhaib, to write the semester exam

Kannur: Maoist and former member of CPI(M), Alan Shuhaib, was granted permission by the Kannur University to write the second semester LLB exam. The university’s permission comes after the court yesterday said that Alan Shuhaib can write the exam if the university allows it.

Last Friday, Alan Shuhaib had moved the court seeking permission to write the semester exam. In his plea he requests the court to grant him the consideration of being a student and let him write the exam. The court allowed him to write the exam if the university grants permission for the same.

Alan Shuhaib along with another person, Taha was arrested by the police for having contacts with the banned Maoist organization. The duo has been charged under the stringent UAPA. Both of them were members of CPI(M) when they were arrested.

The communist party has disowned them which led to many left leaning parties including the CPI opposing the ruling CPI(M). Yesterday, the CPI(M) State Secretary, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, reiterated the party’s stand and said that the duo were actually members of the banned organization and justified the party’s decision to oust them.
