Idukki: An elderly couple was attacked by CPI(M) goons for taking part in the BJP’s public meeting ‘Janajagartha Sadhas’ at Nedumkandam in Idukki district. Soman and his wife Thankkamani are those injured in the attack by communist workers. Both are undergoing medical treatment at the hospital.
Soman and his wife Thankkamani had attended the BJP’s meeting last month. This had infuriated the CPI(M) leadership in the area. The couple said that this led to the attack on them.
Yesterday by afternoon a group of eight communist goons entered their house and attacked Thankkamani who was alone in the house. The goons also attacked Soman when he returned home.
The local residents informed the police after both of them got injured in the attack. The police arrived and took the couple to the police station. A case has been registered against the goons for the attack.
The BJP Panchayat leader, Jayakumar, said that the CPI(M) is trying to create anarchy by unleashing violence in the region.
