Ernakulam: The first special train from Kerala will transport migrants stranded by the nationwide lockdown today evening.
The non-stop train from Aluva station will commence its journey at 6 pm with about 1,200 passengers to Bhubaneswar, Odisha. These migrant workers will be thoroughly disinfected and all passengers will have to maintain social distancing.
Police will bring them from various camps to the railway station. The migrants will be sent back to their native land by following Centre’s strict guidelines. Only one train will commute today.
From tomorrow, a few more trains will start plying, and therefore home secretary has asked everyone not to be in a rush.
Earlier today, a special train commenced its journey from Telangana to Jharkhand at 4.30 am.
The move to send these migrants home by train comes two days after the centre permitted migrants, students and other people who do not have symptoms of coronavirus infection to return home, nearly five weeks after a nationwide lockdown was imposed to break the chain of transmission of the virus.
