Air India express crash: 17 dead including 2 pilots

Kozhikode: In the most unfortunate mishap, 17 people are reported to have lost their lives in Air India Express crash at Karipur Airport.

An Air India Express flight overshot and fell 50 metres off the end of the runway at the Kozhikode airport on Friday, breaking into two.There were 191 people on board.

The two pilots have been confirmed dead while the four-cabin crew members on board the aircraft are safe, said Air India Express. 14 people have been critically injured and are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

“Air India Express Limited regrets to confirm that it’s flight IX-1344 from DXB (Dubai International Airport) to CCJ (Kozhikode International Airport) was involved in an accident on August 7, 2020 at Calicut. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the passengers and crew and their families. We would like to inform that as of now there are 17 confirmed deceased including two pilots. The four cabin crew members are confirmed safe, ” Air India express said in a press release.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan has reached Kozhikode where Air India flight (IX-1344) crash-landed yesterday.
