Lady doctor stabbed to death by an accused while under treatment: Attack occurred in presence of police officers, KGMOA announces state-wide protests

Kollam: In a horrifying incident, a lady doctor, Dr. Vandana Das, succumbed to injuries after she was stabbed six times by an accused, whom she was treating for wounds. The attack occurred at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital. The deceased is a native of Kottayam.

The police had arrested Sandeep for a fight he had with some persons, near his home, and was brought to the hospital for treatment of a wound he got in the brawl. While Dr. Vandana was attending to Sandeep’s wounds, he attacked her with a scissors he got hold off. She sustained injuries to her face, neck and head. The accused then attacked another four persons. The police informed that the accused attacked without giving any warning.

The accused, Sandeep, works as a teacher at a Upper Primary School at Nedumbana in Kollam.

The Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association (KGMOA) has begun a state-wide strike protesting against the killing of the docotr. According to reports, the KGMOA said that only emergency services will be provided in all the hospitals.

Two police officers have also sustained stab injuries.
