Malappuram: The driver of the ill fated boat has revealed that he flauted laws with the knowledge and permission of the boat’s owner, Nassar. The driver, Dineshan, said that in the past too they have operated services carrying more than the capacity of the boat.

The police arrested three other employees of the boat last night. The employees are Appu, Anil, and Bilal. Meanwhile, the police will submit a plea to get Nassar into custody.

The police said that they need to question Nassar in custody about how he got help from officials to modify a fishing boat into a cruise boat and conduct services. The boat driver, Dineshan, has been remanded by the court.

The boat owner, Nassar, was remanded to 14 days yesterday and has been transferred to the Tirur Sub Jail.

According to the remand report, 37 people were on the boat when the accident occurred. The boat had a capacity of only 22 persons. The accident occurred because of overcrowding and unscientifically filling up passengers beyond the boat’s capacity.

People were also boarded on to the deck, which is against the law. Steps were erected for people to get on deck. Moreover, the driver did not possess a license to drive the boat, said the remand report.
