Kollam: Friends and colleagues of Dr. Vandana, who was attacked and killed at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital, have demanded justice for the death of the lady doctor and outlined the failures of the police in protecting the doctor.

They also questioned the claim that the accused was not in his mind.

Vandana’s colleagues said that the accused was taken to the OP dressing room, which did not have enough facilities. There was failure from the police in this. The accused killed the doctor in sound mind. If he was out of his mind how could he clean and hide the knife, the doctors asked.

They also demanded a fast track court for the trial in the case demanded that punishment must be given swiftly. Incidents such as these are not taking place in other states. The government must be ready to provide justice to Vandana. This is the serious failure of the system in Kerala.

Dr. Vandana’s friends said that the police should have intervened strongly. The police officers do not even have guns. They are not trained properly. They added that hospitals are hiring seventy-year-olds as security guards.

The doctors’ friends also criticized the Health Minister’s statement that Vandana’s name will be given to a block at the Kottarakkara hospital. They questioned whether giving a name will resolve all issues. The colleagues criticized that only senior doctors are consulted while passing an ordinance.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has criticized Health Minister, Veena George. He said that the minister cried with the help of glycerin, while meeting with Vandana’s family. Thiruvanchoor said that he saw the minister touching her eyes with her finger before she began to cry.
