Thiruvananthapuram: AI cameras will impose fines for traffic violations in the state from June 5 onward. Transport Minister Antony Raju reiterated this and added that “the technical committee reviewing the efficiency of the camera will submit the report concerned soon. No lapses in the AI system have been identified.”
The Minister also said that Keltron has the responsibility of camera maintenance and will replace defective ones in a timely manner. He also hinted that the government may levy fines on vehicle owners who destroy camera posts through careless driving.
A total of 726 AI cameras have been established across the state. The violation of parking rules is the least fined in the list of violations, with a fine of 250.
For other violations, the fines being issued are as follows:
- Driving without wearing helmets: ₹500
- Driving without a seatbelt: ₹500
- More than two people on two-wheelers: ₹1000
- Use of phones while driving: ₹2000
- Over speeding: ₹1500
- Crossing a red light: The case will be handed over to the court
The Transport Department has decided to provide children under the age of 12 to sit on two-wheelers with two adults without attracting fines.
