In a momentous event just two weeks after the school’s reopening, Sree Moola Vilasam (SMV) Government Model Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram hosted again ‘Praveshanolsavam’ ceremony. The purpose of this gathering was to extend a warm welcome to five newly admitted girl students, marking a historic shift for the institution. Previously an exclusive boys-only school, SMV School has now opened its doors to girls.
The state’s education minister, V. Sivankutty, as part of gender equality initiation government planned to convert single-gender schools in both government and aided sectors across the state into co-educational institutions.
The SMV School in Thiruvananthapuram has taken the lead in this progressive initiative by inducting its first batch of girl students into the high school section. The admission of these five girls represents a significant milestone in the school’s journey. Notably, the school itself holds a rich history, having been established in 1836 by Tranvancore Maharaja Sree Swathi Thirunal, making it one of Kerala’s oldest educational institutions.
