Education Minister V Sivankutty strongly condemns the actions of YouTuber Muhammad Nihad, alias ‘Thoppi,’ who was arrested by the Valancherry police for singing an obscene song in public and causing a traffic disturbance in Valanchery.
The YouTuber ‘Thoppi’ exerts influence over numerous teenagers through the dissemination of obscene and indecent content on YouTube.
Following the arrest in Kochi, ‘Thoppi’ was subsequently granted bail by the Valancherry police.
The minister emphasizes that the government will not tolerate any individual leading our children astray and expresses concern about the negative influence that ‘Thoppi’ has on young minds.
While acknowledging the importance of intellectual freedom, the minister asserts that it should not be used as a pretext for promoting vulgarity and obscenity. He emphasizes that children today are often unsure of what content to accept or follow on social media platforms. To address such issues, the education department plans to incorporate internet literacy into the school syllabus, ensuring that children gain a deeper understanding of the online world.
The minister expresses apprehension about the tendency of the younger generation to idolize social media influencers rather than the friend next door. He said that it can be addressed effectively through the school education. The minister highlights the need for schools to play a pivotal role in shaping the mindset of the youth and steering them away from such problems.
