THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Transport Minister, Antony Raju, has issued directives to accelerate the speed at which penalty challans are sent for violations detected by Artificial Intelligence (AI) cameras. The minister proposed that the entire process should be completed within three months.

During a recent review meeting, it was decided to include details of vehicles registered in other states of Kerala as well. Minister Raju highlighted that the implementation of AI cameras in the state has resulted in a reduction in traffic violations. However, presently, violations by vehicles registered in other states are not being reported by the AI cameras. Recognizing the increasing number of violations by out-of-state vehicles, the review meeting decided to incorporate the details of vehicles from other states into the AI system.

Last month, AI cameras recorded a staggering 20 lakhs of traffic violations. However, only 1.28 lakhs of those violations resulted in generated challans. In light of this situation, Minister Antony Raju urged the Motor Vehicle Department of the state to expedite the process and ensure timely action.

The AI cameras also captured 206 VIP vehicles. Minister Raju further informed that special considerations have been made for government vehicles operating in emergency situations, including those belonging to the Police and Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).

Moreover, the minister revealed that disputes between KSEB and the Motor Vehicle Department regarding penalties imposed on KSEB vehicles have been resolved.

There is a widespread allegation questioning how the Motor Vehicle Department, which has yet to resolve numerous vehicle disputes within Kerala itself, will be able to handle the vehicles from other states as well.
