THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a significant development, the Human Rights Commission has taken action against the University of Kerala in response to a concerning incident involving mass failing of students without the evaluation of their answer sheets. Acting Chairperson K Baijunath has directed the Kerala University Registrar to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter and submit a detailed report within a span of 15 days.

The incident revolves around the BA Malayalam examination held at the Pandalam and Perayam NSS College Centers, which are affiliated with the School of Distance Education under Kerala University. Shockingly, all the students who appeared for the exam were marked as failed, despite the fact that their answer sheets were not assessed at all.

Upon learning about this distressing situation, students expressed their concerns to university officials. In response, the officials suggested that those dissatisfied with their results could opt for reevaluation by paying an additional fee. However, a subsequent inquiry at the college office revealed that—the answer sheets had not even been collected from the exam center for evaluation purposes.

Further, the students reached out to the controller of examination at the University of Kerala for clarification, they were instructed to apply for reevaluation by paying additional charges.

As news of this issue gained traction through various media, including Janam TV, the Human Rights Commission took prompt action by voluntarily filing a case. The commission has directed the University Registrar to furnish a report on the matter of this ‘mass fail’ within a period of 15 days.
