KOZHIKODE: In the midst of heavy downpours during this monsoon season, the coastal population of Kozhikode is grappling with immense hardship. Residents of Godeeshwaram in the Beypur constituency are affected. Distressingly, their plight is exacerbated by the absence of timely visits from their MLA, Mohamed Riyas, who also holds the position of Minister for Public Works Department. The people said that, if the minister makes regular visits to the region, that will push the authorities to implement the needs of the coastal people.
But at present ministers or any other elected representatives have not taken adequate measures to address the grievances of the affected populace. Local residents have voiced strong concerns over the haphazard construction of an embankment in the area, citing it as a root cause of their distress.
Moreover, the coastal community accuses several political leaders of making unfulfilled promises during the election campaign, further adding to their frustrations. The hope that their suffering would diminish with the presence of their local MLA, Mohamed Riyas, who holds ministerial authority, has been shattered, as they are unable to even secure a meeting with him to convey the gravity of their situation.
The coastal people are demanding a permanent solution, rather than relying solely on relief camps that are only established during the rainy season. Their plea resonates with the urgent need for sustainable measures to alleviate their hardships and ensure their safety in the face of future monsoons.
