THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Latin priest Eugene Pereira has launched a scathing critique against Minister V Sivankutty, expressing strong disapproval of his actions. Pereira revealed that during his visit to the conflict site to assess the situation, the Minister said him not to “make show off”. The priest further disclosed that the Minister made similar remarks to women present, aggravating the already tense circumstances.
The priest Eugene Pereira recounted his observations, stating that the Ministers exhibited anger towards the women and children at the conflict spot, displaying a lack of empathy and willingness to address their distress. Additionally, the priest noted that the Minister made no mention of the missing fishermen, emphasizing that his sole response was to discourage any form of public exhibition. Pereira asserted that the Minister’s actions amounted to mere showmanship, while accusing him of wrongfully attributing the instigation of the people’s emotions to the clergy.
The priest also highlighted the pivotal role he and the Archbishop played in bringing the situation under control, asserting that the Minister ought to acknowledge that without their intervention, matters would have escalated further.
But, Latin priest Eugene Pereira finds himself embroiled in a legal case, with the police filing charges against him for allegedly inciting conflicts during the incident where the Ministers were stopped at Muthalapozhi.
Despite facing the case, Pereira remains resolute in his criticism of the Minister’s actions.
