Kannur – A stray dog in Taliparamba, Kannur, bit three individuals on Thursday, raising concerns about public safety in the area. The incident occurred on the premises of the Taliparamba bus stand, leaving Jafar Kappalam, S Munir from Kappalam, S Munir from Thrichambaram, and PV Vinod from Pattuvam injured. They were promptly rushed to Pariyaram Medical College for necessary medical treatment.
Following the incident, officials from the municipal corporation visited the victims to assess the situation and provide support. The increasing instances of stray dog attacks in the region have become a matter of concern for the local community.
In a related news, it has been confirmed that a stray dog that bit an individual in Thiruvananthapuram has been infected with rabies. This development has further heightened the urgency to address the ongoing issue of human-stray dog conflicts in Kerala.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the Supreme Court made oral observations on Wednesday, emphasising the need for a long-term solution to mitigate the risks associated with such conflicts. The court was responding to a plea filed by the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (keSCPCR), which sought directions to curb the growing menace of stray dog attacks in the state, particularly incidents involving children.
