THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is reported that, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) has found itself entangled in controversy as it attempts to halt the construction of the Balaramapuram underpass road, allegedly due to pressure from Muslim organizations. The party’s Nemam Area Committee went so far as to erect a flex board announcing the cessation of the underpass project, claiming that it would be replaced with a four-lane road.
According to locals, the flex has been intentionally fabricated to obstruct the construction and is not genuine.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) Nemam Area Secretary, Parakuzhi Surendran, asserted that the authorities had provided assurances that the underpass construction had been abandoned. However, conflicting statements emerged from the offices of Public Works Department Minister, Mohammed Riyas, and the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), refuting the claim and affirming that the underpass lane would indeed be built.
Surendran said that the party would vehemently oppose the underpass project and offer steadfast support for its abandonment in Balaramapuram. Meanwhile, local residents are pointing fingers at Muslim organizations, alleging that their influence is behind the CPI(M)’s move to sabotage the underpass construction. As the opposition to the CPI(M)’s actions gains momentum, objections against subverting the underpass construction are growing stronger.
The situation has become contentious, with conflicting narratives and community sentiments coming into play. But the Balaramapuram underpass project remains uncertain as the political and communal tensions continue to escalate.
