Jamaat-e-Islami to participate in Congress’ public program against UCC

Kozhikode: The Congress party has invited Jamaat-e-Islami and Welfare Party to its public function ‘Janasadas’ against the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The program conducted by KPCC will see the participation of Jamaat-e-Islami along with other Muslim organizations.

The CPI(M) had not invited the Jamaat-e-Islami and Welfare Party to its seminar against UCC conducted in Kozhikode on 15th July. This was because these organizations had accused the CPI(M) of trying to cause divisions in the name of UCC.

Congress leader and Member of Parliament, Shashi Tharoor, had come out against both CPI(M) and the Congress party. He said that it is better to protest against UCC after the draft of the UCC is introduced in the Parliament.

There is intense rift inside the party over the UCC issue. This was why the main LDF partner, Communist Party of India (CPI), and also main leaders of the Samastha did not participate in the seminar.

Veteran CPI(M) leader, EP Jayarajan’s non-attendance and the absence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took the sheen out of the seminar.

The accusations against CPI(M) that it was conducting the seminar for communal polarization and the decision of the party to keep Muslim women away from speaking at seminar have backfired. Even the non-attendance of main Samastha leaders at the seminar also foiled CPI(M)’s calculations.

Meanwhile, the sudden demise of former Chief Minister and Congress leader, Oommen Chandy, has forced the Congress party to postponed their public program against UCC, which was scheduled for 22nd July at Kozhikode itself.
