HC to consider contempt of court related to surplus land case today; decision crucial for PV Anvar MLA

Ernakulam: The High Court will again consider today the contempt of court related to the surplus land case against PV Anvar MLA. The government will submit an affidavit in the court detailing the actions taken by the government to reclaim the surplus land held by PV Anvar and his family members. The case will be considered by the bench of Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan.

The High Court had earlier rejected the government’s plea for more time to submit the report.

The government had not executed the High Court’s order in 2021 and 2022 to finish the procedures to reclaim the surplus land. When the government did not execute the HC’s order, a RTI activist approached the court and filed a contempt of court against the government.

Today’s High Court decision is crucial for PV Anvar.

PV Anvar, the MLA of Nilambur, has been in the news recently for threatening online journalists and even trying to silence the media by threatening them with legal notices and court cases. His out-of-the-way remarks and threatening words over social media led to widespread criticism against him.

He has been accused of illegal encroachment and illegal construction.
