Thiruvananthapuram: The Fisheries Department has postponed its meeting with Adani Group in connection with the Muthalapozhi accidents. The meeting was rescheduled due to the inconvenience of the state government. The state government had earlier promised to hold a meeting with Adani Group to discuss about removing the sand deposit immediately. The sand deposits at Muthalapozhi have led to numerous boat accidents and deaths in the area.
The people turned against the state government after accidents at Muthalapozhi became frequent. The state government had informed earlier that before the Central Government’s expert committee examines the area, the state will hold meeting with Adani Group and will begin the process of removing the sand deposit.
Three days have gone by after the Central Government’s expert committee reached the area and conducted the study. Still the State Government has not begun any discussion with Adani Group. The State Government has informed of inconvenience for the discussion. The Adani Group has also not been informed of the rescheduled date.
The government is well aware that accidents will continue to happen if dredging is not done in the area. However, the government is silent over the issue and no follow ups are being done. Though the state government has done two scientific studies at Muthalapozhi, the report of the experts has not been submitted to the authorities.
Moreover, it was decided that the Ministers hailing from the district will be included in the discussion to find amicable solutions. However, a Cabinet decision in this regard is also pending. Meanwhile, the accidents at Muthalapozhi are still continuing.
