Idukki: A 50-year-old man named Sunilkumar, who brutally killed a six-year-old boy by striking his head with a hammer and also raped his sister, has been given the death penalty by a fast-track POCSO court in Idukki. This heart-wrenching incident involved the accused, who happened to be the husband of the children’s mother’s sister.

The young victim, whose life was tragically taken away, was the son of a couple residing in Aamakandam near Anachal in Idukki. This grave and devastating incident has led to a just and severe punishment for the culprit, ensuring he faces the consequences of his hideous crimes. In addition to the death penalty, he was also sentenced to a total of 92 years in prison for finding guilty in four separate cases.

The accused had also tried to kill his mother and grandmother by hitting them on the head with a hammer. It was after this that the 14-year-old sister was raped in a cardamom plantation. The incident that took place on the night of October 2, 2021 is suspected to be the fallout of a family dispute. The Vellathuval police subsequently filed the charge sheet in the case. The court approved the plea of the prosecution and awarded death sentence to the accused.
