Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has issued a warning of potential widespread rain in the state of Kerala today, with heavy rains predicted at isolated places. The coastal districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, and Palakkad are on yellow alert, indicating a need for precautionary measures.
The meteorological department also cautioned about the possibility of rain in isolated places in south Kerala. This alert comes as a result of a strong low-pressure system located over the central West Bay of Bengal and the northwest Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to move in a northwesterly direction towards the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast.
Additionally, a coastal low-pressure system that previously existed from the south Konkan coast to the north Kerala coast has weakened. As a precautionary measure, fishing activities have been banned to ensure the safety of fishermen and their vessels amid the unpredictable weather conditions.
