Thiruvananthapuram: The frequency of attacks on policemen while on duty in Thiruvananthapuram city is on the rise, becoming a concerning issue. Over the past three months, around fifteen policemen have fallen victim to such attacks. Moreover, there have been complaints indicating that several police stations are operating without sufficient facilities to effectively carry out their duties.

The state is witnessing a surge in attacks on police personnel. Due to the shortage of manpower and inadequate facilities, the police are left vulnerable while confronting criminals. To be precise, over the past three months, 13 policemen have been subject to similar attacks while on duty, resulting in injuries. The incidents range from the throwing of bombs at the police to accused attempting to escape by stabbing officers at the station, causing harm. Often, these attacks are carried out by regular criminals involved in various crimes.

There is a concerning rise in attacks on the police by criminal gangs during night patrolling also. However, even in emergencies, the availability of Striker Force support to the police is limited. There are four units of Striker Force with the Kochi City Police.

Additionally, the police force is struggling with the poor condition of vehicles in their stations, adding further challenges to their operations. When policing itself faces such difficulties under the home department, it raises the question of whom the police officers can turn to for recourse and assistance.
