CALICUT: In response to the ragging incident at MES College, Kalanthode, the college management has taken decisive action. Seven members of the nine-person group involved, namely Adil, Siraj, Shanil, Ashiq, Ishaq, and Akhil, have been expelled. Prior to this, they were temporarily suspended pending investigation based on the complaint.
The incident that triggered the action was the brutal assault on Mithilaj, a second-year Sociology student, by senior students a few days ago. The attack resulted in severe injuries, including a broken nose and impaired vision, as confirmed by medical professionals.
Mithilaj’s father spoke out about the incident, stating that his son was attacked by approximately 10 seniors from MES College, Kalanthode. As a result of the formal complaint, the Kunnamangalam Police have registered a case to investigate the matter further.
The gravity of the situation has also drawn the attention of the University of Calicut, which has asked the college for an explanation of the events that transpired.
While the college has taken action against the perpetrators, some relatives of the victim are calling for even more stringent measures from the state government to prevent such attacks in the future. They fear that without proper intervention, the education system of the state could be adversely affected.
