Thiruvananthapuram: A gruesome incident of infanticide took place at Anchuthengu in Thiruvananthapuram district. A dead body of a newborn baby was found yesterday morning near the beach by fishermen. The body was mauled badly by dogs.
The police have now arrested the mother of the baby, Julie, for killing and abandoning the four-day old baby, said a report. It is said that Julie has confessed to the crime.
The mother suffocated the baby to death and buried it behind the toilet said the report. The dead body was found mauled by stray dogs and badly mutilated.
Though she first gave the statement that the baby was still born, later examination found that the newborn was suffocated to death.
The report also mentioned that Julie is a widow and mother of a 15-year-old boy and that she killed the baby in an attempt to hide her pregnancy.
