Thiruvananthapuram: A potentially catastrophic incident was narrowly avoided on the national highway at Chempakamangalam, Thiruvananthapuram, as a KSRTC bus caught fire while in operation. The quick and alert response of the suspicious driver played a pivotal role in averting a major accident, as he promptly stopped the bus and safely evacuated all passengers when smoke was noticed emanating from the vehicle. The cause of the fire remains unclear and is subject to investigation.
The unfortunate incident unfolded when a KSRTC bus, travelling from Attingal to Thiruvananthapuram, was en route with 34 passengers on board. Suddenly, smoke began rising from the bus while it was in motion, sparking concern among both passengers and the driver. Recognising the potential danger, the driver took immediate action to ensure the safety of all passengers on board.
The fire rapidly escalated, engulfing the entire bus and leaving it completely gutted by the time the fire brigade arrived at the scene. Despite their best efforts, the fire department could not salvage the vehicle, as the flames had already taken an overwhelming hold. However, their prompt arrival and extinguishing efforts ensured that the fire did not spread to nearby areas, preventing any further harm or damage.
