Malappuram: The family of Thamir Jifri, who died while in police custody in Tanur, has made serious allegations. According to the police, Thamir was taken into custody at midnight from Tanur. However, the family disputes this claim and asserts that he was taken into custody from Chelari at 5 pm. Moreover, they allege that Thamir was forcefully taken from his residence while only wearing underwear and subjected to brutal beatings.

According to the police, Thamir Jifri and four others were apprehended near Devedar Over Bridge in Tanur on Monday midnight for possessing narcotic drugs. However, Thamir’s brother claims that a friend informed them that Thamir was actually taken into custody from his residence in Chelari at 5 pm. The brother mentioned that initially, there were no issues, but at 11 pm, Thamir contacted his friend.

Despite being brought to the hospital early the next morning and pronounced dead, the police informed Thamir Jifri’s relatives only at 10:30 am. There are also allegations that the initial statements provided by the police were contradictory. As a result of this situation, the relatives provided a statement to the Parappanangady Magistrate. The incident is currently under investigation by the police.

Yesterday, eight police officers accused in the custodial death of Thamir Jifri were suspended, pending further investigation. Thamir Jifri and four others were taken into custody by the police in possession of 18 grams of MDMA. According to the police, Thamir allegedly fainted while he was in their custody at the police station.

The initial autopsy report revealed the presence of 13 bruises on Thamir’s body. The investigating team has stated that further tests are required to determine if these bruises are indicative of custodia torture. In addition, during the examination, two plastic covers containing a crystal-like substance were discovered in Thamir’s stomach. The investigation team also expressed the need to analyze whether this substance is indeed MDMA.
