Intelligence report states that Bangladeshis are making Kerala a safe haven; Bangladeshis found in Munambam and Cherai

Kochi: There are reports that a significant number of individuals from Bangladesh, who have infiltrated the country, are presently residing in Kerala. In locations such as Munambam and Cherai in Kochi, these Bangladeshis are living alongside diverse linguistic communities of migrant workers. Upon identification as Bangladeshis by local residents, they were handed over to the police. However, the police seem hesitant to pursue the matter further. This reluctance stems from the fact that once their Bangladeshi identity is established, the police would be obligated to undertake procedures, including repatriation across the border.

It’s worth noting that an earlier report by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had highlighted the presence of Bangladeshi terrorists in Kerala as well. Bangladeshis have settled in Kerala by using fraudulent identity documents that falsely depict them as Assamese and Bengali individuals. Agents are everywhere to set up safe havens for these infiltrators who make their way through West Bengal and then spread into different states.

In an incident in August 2022, four Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended at the Munambam fishing harbor. The vigilant local community intervened, subjecting the individuals to interrogation, which unveiled their true Bangladeshi identity. Subsequently, they were handed over to the police and subjected to questioning by officials from the Intelligence Bureau. Eventually, the individuals were repatriated to Bangladesh.

The local residents continue to actively question individuals they suspected to be Bangladeshis, gathering crucial information. Just recently, during an interrogation of an individual who raised suspicions, it was revealed that he indeed hailed from Bangladesh. Currently, the situation in the state is such that distinguishing between migrant workers and Bangladeshi infiltrators has become increasingly challenging. While these migrant workers are well aware of the presence of Bangladeshis working alongside them and sharing accommodations in labor camps, they remain silent due to fear.

The validity of the intelligence report indicating that Bangladeshis are establishing Kerala as a secure refuge has been affirmed by these instances.
