THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The President of Sivagiri Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust, Swami Satchidananda, urged AN Shamseer, the Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, to issue an apology for his anti-Hindu remarks. Swami Satchidananda emphasized the Hindu tradition of respecting all religions and stated that the protests stemmed from the hurt caused to believers by Shamseer’s comments.
Referring to the revered work “Vinayaka Ashtakam” by Sree Narayana Gurudevan, Swami Satchidananda highlighted Gurudevan’s deep reverence and devotion to Lord Ganesh. The controversy arose on July 21 when Shamseer, who identifies as a secularist, referred to Lord Ganesh as a myth during an event at a government school in Ernakulam. This remark deeply offended Hindu believers, prompting the demand for an apology from Shamseer.
Swami Satchidananda clarified that the trust’s stance is not driven by political motives but by the respect for religious sentiments.
He addressed the issue during a press conference held at the Trust’s headquarters in Varkala.
