Three people of a family drowns in Muvattupuzha river; bodies recovered

Kottayam: In a tragic accident, three people have lost their lives in a drowning accident in Muvattupuzha River at Vaikom in Kottayam district. The deceased are Johnson (56), his sister’s son, Aloshi (16) and his brother’s daughter Jismol (15). The bodies of all the three have been recovered. The accident took place near the Cherukara Bridge.

A group consisting of sever persons had arrived at the spot to take a bath. They came there as part of a family trip. When three persons went missing, the rest of the group alerted the locals. It took two hours for the fire and rescue team and the local people to recover their bodies.

The rest of the team who went into the river to bath, including Johnson’s brother Joby Mathew, wife Soumya, and Johnson’s sisters Mini and Suni, escaped. It is believed that the family arrived there to enjoy the holiday. Officials from the Velloor police station have arrived on the scene.
