Thiruvananthapuram: A serene morning turned into a heart-wrenching tragedy as an elderly man riding on a scooter lost his life after being struck by a police van at Navaikulam Tattupalam on the national highway in Kallambalam. The unfortunate incident occurred when the man was riding pillion behind his daughter-in-law, who was driving the scooter. Sreedharan Pillai, the victim, met his untimely end at Elangam SD Bhawan, Kadampattukonam.
The sorrowful accident transpired during a routine journey from Kadampattukonam to Kallambalam. The scooter, carrying the elderly man and his daughter-in-law, encountered a van from the Alappuzha Police Headquarters, resulting in a collision that proved fatal for Sreedharan Pillai. The incident unfolded around 11 a.m. yesterday, casting a pall of grief.
Sreedharan Pillai, known for his past association with a private cashew factory in Tamil Nadu, was an active participant in community endeavors following his retirement. He had dedicated himself to public service as a valued member of the Elangam Temple Committee. However, this vibrant phase of his life was tragically cut short by this unforeseen accident.
While Sreedharan Pillai met a tragic end at the site of the collision, his daughter-in-law, identified as Unnimaya, sustained severe injuries. She was swiftly rushed to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, where she is currently receiving medical attention for her injuries.
