Thiruvananthapuram: The NSS has reaffirmed its position that, even if the legal case related to the Namajapayatra, a protest against Speaker AN Shamseer’s anti-Hindu remarks, is withdrawn, there will be no alteration in their standpoint. The NSS asserts that, irrespective of case closure, their demand for Speaker Shamseer to rectify his statement and issue an apology remains unchanged. The NSS underscores that the issue at hand centers around faith rather than legal proceedings, emphasising the importance of the speaker addressing or retracting his statement.
Previously, the NSS had announced their intention to confront the case against them through proper legal channels. However, the CP(I)M’s position was that the speaker would neither correct his statement nor offer an apology. Presently, the government is engaged in efforts to persuade the NSS, particularly in light of an upcoming by-election. The decision to withdraw the legal proceedings came after a report was submitted to the High Court, against the NSS indicating that the Namajapayatra had been conducted without official permission.
