THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Railway Board has issued an order to extend the Thiruvananthapuram-Madurai Amrita Express to Rameswaram. However, owing to ongoing construction work on the new Pamban bridge across the sea channel, the initial operation will likely terminate at Mandapam.
Once the construction of the bridge concludes, the train is anticipated to finally reach Rameswaram in December. A comprehensive notification outlining the service extension date will be released by the railways in the near future. Comprising 22 coaches, the train’s setup will consist of 13 sleeper coaches, three third AC coaches, one second AC coach, one first AC coach, and two general coaches.
The train’s departure from Thiruvananthapuram is scheduled for 8:30 PM, arriving in Rameswaram at 1:40 PM on the subsequent day. The return journey from Rameswaram will commence at 1 PM, reaching Thiruvananthapuram at 5 AM on the following day. Notably, the timing adjustments between Thiruvananthapuram and Madurai remain insignificant.
The inauguration of the Amrit Bharat Station project by Prime Minister Narendra Modi stands as a significant milestone, signaling the nation’s commitment to enhancing railway stations for a more sophisticated travel experience.
