Kalpetta: On February 18, two Youth Congress workers, Sarath Lal and Kripesh, were brutally hacked to death by communists in Kasargod. They were close friends and active Congress workers in the locality. The political double murder shook the consciousness of the public and the communist party was on the back-foot when they desperately tried to distance the party from the murders.
Congress State leaders took to the streets to protests against the heinous crimes. The youthful faces of the slain friends and the utter poverty of their homes were enough to melt any hard-hearted person.
However, the only heart that haven’t melt one bit is, ironically, the heart of the Congress National President, Rahul Gandhi.
Today, after submitting his nomination papers, Rahul Gandhi said that he will not speak against the CPI(M) and will take their criticism with a smile. He also said that not a word will come out of his mouth against the communists.
This means that Rahul Gandhi would not highlight the murderous reign of the communist party in Kerala. His decision has come as a shock to the Congress workers at the grass-root level who have faced the terror of the communists goons in the State for long. Many young congress workers have fell victim to political murders by the CPI(M).
What makes the statement of Rahul Gandhi more cruel and unsympathetic, especially for the families of Sarath Lal and Kripesh, is the fact that he had visited their homes and promised that those behind the killings will be brought to justice.
A few months later the same Rahul Gandhi has returned to Kerala to submit his nomination papers to contest from Wayanad and declares that he will be silent against the communists who murdered two of his own party members.
For the State Congress leaders, decisions of the High Command is divine and final. However, grass-root workers and activists are surprised at their leader’s lack of concern for their safety and wellbeing.
It must be noted that leaders of RSS, which had suffered the brunt of communism the most, visited the houses of the slain Congress workers in solidarity to the families who lost their loved ones.
Rahul Gandhi, in a bid to appease his communist friends, has stooped so low and pawned his dignity and also the self respect of the party he leads. He knows that no leader in Congress dares to question his doings.
However, it is hard not to think that the souls of the two slain Congress workers will ever forgive Rahul Gandhi for abandoning their families.
