Idukki: Wild animals are attacking domestic animals in the residential area of Munnar. A tiger attack in Munnar’s Kannimala lower division resulted in the death of dairy cows. Wild animals have killed two cattle owned by a local resident named Ayyadurai. In the last four years, wild animals have claimed the lives of more than 30 cows in this area.
The incident was brought to light through an investigation when the cows, which had been taken out to graze, did not return. Carcasses of cows were discovered on a tea plantation. Subsequent to the incident, the forest department has installed a surveillance camera in the area. Since the body was not removed from the area, the tiger returned to feed again, and the camera captured the scene.
People also complain that wild animal attacks causing the loss of livestock, a crucial source of livelihood, adversely affect the future lives of the workers. The forest department has issued advice that individuals should not travel alone in the area. Officials have decided to conduct a special patrol at night.
