CPI(M) continues its indifference in the allegation against CM’s daughter for taking Rs.1.72 crores from CMRL; decides to wait it out till GST report is received

Thiruvananthapuram: Though the CPI(M) has maintained that the Chief Minister’s daughter, Veena Vijayan, and her company Exalogic has paid GST for the Rs.1.72 crores, they are yet to provide evidence for the same. The communist leaders fear that if evidence is not provided, then the allegations raised by Congress leaders, Mathew Kuzhalnadan, will be proved right.

The CPI(M) is continuing with its indifference and silence over the issue of Veena Vijayan and her company, Exalogic, taking money from black-sand mining company, Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL). Currently, the thought behind the party’s silence is the decision not to respond till the report from Income Tax Department is published.

Though, Mathew Kuzhalnadan, yesterday, said that he still stands by his allegation that Veena Vijayan has not paid GST for the money she received from CMRL and that the money was not for any service her company had provided CMRL but that it was a political payment. The CPI(M) leaders are silent over Kuzhalnadan’s repeated accusations against the Chief Minister’s daughter.

It was according to the party’s suggestion that Finance Minister, KN Balagopalan, ordered the Revenue Secretary to look into the issue. The CPI(M) leadership believes that this will carry more weight rather than the party investigating the matter.

The opposition might also raise the question that if GST is paid for the Rs.1.72 crores, then why hasn’t it being shown in the election affidavit submitted by Veena Vijayan’s husband, Muhammed Riyas, who is PWD Minister in the Pinarayi Government.

Earlier, CPI(M) Central Committee member, AK Balan, took on Mathew Kuzhalnadan strongly and challenged him if he would tender an apology if there is evidence that Veena Vijayan had paid GST. Balan also asked Kuzhalnadan if he is ready to abandon his political activities if his allegations are proved wrong.

However, after no evidence could be produced by the CPI(M) leadership that Veena Vijayan had paid the GST amount, the party leadership came to the decision that further response need to be made only after GST report is published.
