Thiruvananthapuram: A notable petition has been submitted to Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, urging the renaming of Kerala University to Travancore University. Spearheaded by prominent figures including Travancore royal Aswathi Thirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bai, Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce and Industry President SN Raguchandran Nair, and Secretary Abraham Thomas, the petition contends that the current name of the university lacks relevance and fails to capture the essence of the institution’s jurisdiction, heritage, and regional significance.
The memorandum, delivered to Governor Khan, who serves as the chancellor of universities, presents a compelling case for the proposed name change. According to the petitioners, altering the university’s name to Travancore University or University of Travancore would better align with the cultural identity of the region and aptly honour the substantial contributions made by the people of Travancore to the advancement of education within India.
