Thiruvananthapuram: Nidhish, the Block Secretary of DYFI, received a fine notification for riding a scooter without a helmet. In response, CPI(M) members assembled at Pettah police station on Tuesday night to protest against this action. This led to a confrontation between the police, activists, and protestors on the road. The district secretary of CPI(M), MLA V Joy arrived at Pettah police station and engaged in a heated argument with police officers. Ultimately, the issue was resolved with the intervention of senior police officials who arrived at the scene and mediated with the leaders.
The complaint raised by DYFI was that, SI Abhilash, SI Aseem, and driver Mithun physically attacked a DYFI member during a vehicle inspection. Consequently, the Sub-Inspectors who had fined the DYFI member were relieved from their law and order duties, and the driver was also reassigned to the AR camp. Following this, the Assistant Commissioner of the Narcotics Cell initiated an inquiry into the matter.
A DYFI leader lodged a complaint with the commissioner, alleging that SI Abhilash had attempted to harm him while inside the station. This allegation was also subjected to investigation. The subsequent inquiry report concluded that the police personnel were not at fault. As a result, the transfer procedures that had been initiated were revoked.
