Thiruvananthapuram: In an unfortunate turn of events, the electronic point of sale (E-POS) machines responsible for the distribution of essential Onam kits have once again malfunctioned across multiple districts in the state. With just one day remaining for the much-awaited Onam festival, concerns arise as the distribution of vital supplies faces hurdles.
Reports indicate that E-POS machines in numerous districts have become non-functional, causing a delay in the distribution process. This comes at a time when the demand for Onam kits remains high due to the ongoing festivities. Adding to the distress, the supply of Onam special rice has also been abruptly halted due to the technical glitch.
The current distribution system relies on the use of one-time passwords (OTPs) sent to mobile numbers to ensure a smooth and accountable process. However, the malfunctioning E-POS machines have hindered the distribution, leaving a mere 10 percent of the beneficiaries with their much-needed Onam kits. According to estimates from the previous day, only 62,231 kits have been successfully distributed out of the intended 5,87,691 kits meant for yellow card users across the state.
