Kochi: The court criticised the police for the arrest of Shajan Skariah, the owner of the online media Marunadan Malayali channel. The Ernakulam District Sessions Court criticised the police. The court highlighted that the arrest occurred while the anticipatory bail application was under consideration, and it noted a delay in the application process due to the police’s request for additional time. The court also criticised the police for hastily making arrests by misusing legal procedures.
Shajan Skariah, who was at the Nilambur police station as part of an investigation into attempting to incite religious hatred, was apprehended in a different case while still undergoing questioning. The arrest was conducted in connection with a forgery case that had been registered in Thrikkakara. The case against Shajan involved allegations of disseminating false information to instigate civil unrest. The court granted anticipatory bail in the incident.
