Kozhikode: A recent audit report has shed light on a concerning discrepancy in the purchase of anti-coronavirus materials for the Govt. Homoeopathy Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode. According to the audit findings, materials worth Rs. 1.86 lakh intended for the hospital’s use were not received, even after the peak of the coronavirus period had passed.
The district panchayat allocated Rs. 10 lakh for procuring essential supplies to equip the district Homeopathy hospital in its fight against the pandemic. However, the audit conducted by the state audit department has brought to light that anti-coronavirus materials valued at Rs. 1.86 lakh never made their way to the hospital, even after the pandemic’s peak had subsided.
Among the missing supplies were critical items such as surgical gowns, oxygen cylinders, and an ECG machine. The audit report further reveals that not only did these materials not reach their intended destination, but there were also violations in the order process. The audit department noted that the goods were purchased at inflated prices compared to the original order, further complicating the situation.
Given the gravity of the situation, the audit department has emphasised the need for a more comprehensive investigation into the matter. The irregularities in the procurement process and the non-delivery of essential materials warrant a thorough review to ascertain accountability and rectify any potential mismanagement of funds and resources.
