Thiruvananthapuram: BJP State President, K Surendran, in a statement said that Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, led government has ruined Onam for Malayalees.

The BJP leader criticized the government for its failure to distribute Onam kits for the poorest people in the state. The government has prevented the poor people from enjoying Onam this year.

Surendran said that the distribution of free Onam kit that was decided to be given for six lakh people has been postponed to the eve of Thiruvonam resulting in many people missing out to celebrate Onam. This shows the inhumane face of the government.

K Surendran added that the government failed to intervene in the market, the prices of items have gone up. This has forced people to sit at home without the ability to buy essential items. He also blamed the government for disrupting the public distribution system completely.

He said that no items are available at the Supplyco. The cost of vegetables has shot up. The high prices have kept people from buying and leading to markets and wayside shops devoid of buyers. The government has backstabbed the traders and the farmers.

The BJP leader also reminded that usually government pays the salaries of government employees if Onam falls on the end of a month. However, this year that practice was also abandoned resulting in difficulties for government employees to celebrate Onam.

He said that the government does not want people to celebrate the festival. The government has showed its hatred to Onam also just like how it is showing its hatred to the traditions and culture of the state.
